Planning: (Complete before starting work)

To make the sounds for the video clip we as a group will need to decide what sounds we will want to make and how to make them. To do this we will need to watch through the silenced video clip and create a cue sheet to know what sounds we want and when to make them. Once we have done that we need to know how to use the equipment that we will be using, to do this we will research information about it all and get to know it before starting to record.

To be able to finish this task we will need to make sure that everyone knows who is who and what they are saying when recording, also what sounds thy will be making when for it to be in sync with the video, when doing this we will need to make sure we have all the equipment we are going to use when making the sounds. We will need to make sure we have all the recording equipment and make sure its set up properly to actually record the audio and sounds. We will then need to make sure we know how to use audition properly and well enough to edit the audio and sound see have for it and to make sure it is all in sync with the video clip. To make sure I know how to use the software I will need to research and find information about how to use it and how to edit audio properly.

Research & Experimentation:

Before starting to record this we need to research different audio terminology so we know what the different parts are called, the different types of microphones and the different equipment we will be using. We will also need to find what things we will be using for the different sounds we want to make throughout the video clip.

By doing this research it will make it easier when we are recording the audio and sounds and then when I come to edit the whole thing.

Production:

Recording
Whilst recording the audio for this video clip we had to make sure we knew what bit we were each saying and when to say it. We came across a few different problems whilst doing this, for example some of us couldn’t say some of the words we needed to. To over come this problem we just had to practise what we were saying before we actually recorded it so when we came to recording we could say it all properly. We then had trouble syncing the audio up with the video clip. To fix this we had to practise when we were saying it to make sure it was all in sync, then if it still wasn’t perfectly in sync we had to move it a little bit when we were editing the whole thing.

Editing
When I came to editing the audio for this there was no sound and couldn’t hear anything. To fix this I needed to g back into the recording studio to get all of the folders I needed to hear the audio and copy it onto my memory stick so I could edit it. To make sure this doesn’t happen gain I will make sure the I copy all of the folders properly before I leave the studio and before I start editing it all. I also had a problem where some of the sounds we had created was too loud and it became overpowering to the rest of it. To solve this I had tried to turn the sound down on it but then I had turned it too low and couldn’t get it back again. To fix this I was just pressing the wrong thing and had to go somewhere else on the programme to turn it up so I could actually hear it again.

When I had finished editing everything on it I had to export it and import it onto premier so the audio is all on one track, could put the video clip over the top of the audio and is then easier to upload it onto YouTube.

Reflection:

Overall I am happy with how this turned out however there are a few things I could’ve changed. For example at the end when Flin said it finally works, the works bit goes on for longer than what I made it do, so to change this I could’ve made it do that on my edit to make it sound better over all. Also times the audio cane a little bit quite and harder to hear, to fix this I could’ve turned up the volume to make it easier to hear all the way through. I feel like I could’ve added more sound effects over the top of the audio to make it more effective and to cover all of the sounds being seen in the video, to do this I could’ve either made the sounds ourselves or gone onto a website and downloaded a sound to cover it. However I am still happy with the out come as I haven’t done anything like that before so it was all new to me, so considering it was my first time I’m happy with how I edited it all and how I put it all together.

Once I had finished editing all of it and finished putting it all together I needed to export it from premier to upload it too YouTube, to export it from there I need to change the format to say H.264, change the name of it and save it somewhere I’ll know where it is. When I had done that I could upload it to YouTube to then share on WordPress.

Final Music video reflection

To be able to make my music video I needed to decide what music I wanted to make it to and then decide what kind of footage I wanted to get and film for it. After looking at the different songs I could use, I have decided to use ‘Winter Things’ by Ariana Grande. I chose to do this song because I thought that it could suit the as the song is about winter and christmas and thought there could be alot i could get footage of. Once I had chosen the song I needed to decide what I wanted to get footage of and the kind of clips I wanted to use. I want to film an ice skating rink, winter lights, me and friends watching winter film, bonfire. I also want to get pictures and put them into the video but I want to make have good tranisitions betweeen each one and make them smooth. Whilst doing the filming and the research I need to do a daily reflection to say what went well and what I need to do the next day and say why I didnt finish the work for that day if I hadn’t. For me to be able to do this I need to know what kind of things I want to film and how to film them, I need to go to the places to make sure they are good enough to film and are open to use and film there. I need to know how to edit a video to make it a good standard and how to put the effects and transitions between each clip. I will need to know how to use premiere pro properly and to a good standard to be able to edit on there. To be able to use the programme properly I will have to research how to use it and find out what does what on there. I will also need to make sure I know how to record on the cameras that I will be using. To finish this I will need to make sure i have enough clips to use throughout the whole video, if I don’t I will need to make sure that I have fond footage online to use and will need to make sure I can still upload it to youtube.

Research & Experimentation:

Before starting this task I will need to research winter themed music and find which one I want to use. I will also need to research the places I wanted to film at to make sure I am able to film there, also look up what kind of winter themed activities I can do and get footage for and where I could film it. This all helped me to do the music video because I learnt more about the cameras I was using and it helped me come up with ideas that I could use within the video.

Production:

Whilst I was editing this video I came across a few difficulties, first I didn’t save my project properly and closed the programme before it hd finished saving so I lost the whole this and had to start again. To make sure this doesn’t happen again I needed to make sure I save it properly and carefully and also make sure it has saved before I close the programme. I also came across a problem where I didn’t have enough footage whist I was editing the video, I overcame this problem by looking on youtube to find some footage I could use and include in my project. Luckily I kind of knew what sort of clip I wanted to get from youtube so it was quite quick to find something I wanted to use which saved quite a bit of time.

Reflection:

Overall I am happy with the outcome of the music video that I made, because I got most of the clips I wanted to get and put them all in the video, I managed to edit them how I wanted to, put the effects and transitions between each clip and I managed to finish editing the music video on time and uploaded it to youtube by the dead line as well. However I’m not as happy as I could be with it, this is because I wanted to film a bonfire myself and have friends round it roasting marshmellows but I couldn’t get that as no one was free to film and it kept raining, instead I got a clip of a fireplace from youtube and used that. I also wanted to add more video clips as well as photos but didn’t manage to get them as the places I wanted to film were either not open yet to get the footage in time or I wasn’t allowed to film there. To edit we used premiere pro, to do this I imported the music video I downloaded from youtube and got rid of the video of it so I just had the audio. I then imported the clips I wanted to use and put them in the order I wanted. Once I had done that I put the effects I wanted to use over the different clips to make it look different and have a better effect. I also then put transitions between them all to make it smoother between each clip and edited them to the way I wanted them. Once I had done that I need to export it and upload it to youtube. To export it you need to go to file, export, media. Then you will need to make sure the format it a H.264, change the name to something you’ll know it as and finally change the source range entire sequence. Once you have done that press export and wait for it to finish exporting.

Project 2 – Different camera angles

Planning: (Complete before starting work)

To be able to do this task we had to research different camera angles for our homework and then film them at college a week later so today my aim is to film them all and start to edit them. I also need to finish some of the writing tasks we have been set. For me to be able to do this task I need to make sure I do the homework before I start the filming to make sure I know what I need to film to get the right angle. I will need a few different skills for example I need camera skills so I know how to work the cameras, I need to know what all the cameras are and how to film them and I also need file management skills as I will have a lot of video clips and I need to make sure I know where they all are and make sure they don’t get lost. To be able to finish this task I will need to research the different camera angles and find information about them and learn how to use the editing site.

Research & Experimentation:

Before doing this task we experimented quite a lot, for example we saw example shots, that other people had done before use, before we starting filming our own, we got shown how to use the cameras and we got shown how to use to use the editing site we will be using to edit the shots. Whilst doing this project I used quite a few different sources, for example we used adobe premiere pro for the editing site, I used Google to find information about the different camera angles we needed to know about. All these helped me to be able to finish the task we need to.

Production:

Whilst I was doing this project I came across a few problems that I had to over come. For example we didn’t manage to film all the camera angles we needed to, to be able to do the project and to finish it all and another problem that I had to overcome was that the computer I was working on wasn’t working properly. To solve these problems we had to go back out to finish filming the rest of the angles we didn’t manage to film earlier in the day. to solve the other problem about the computer I had to re-start the whole thing and hope that it then worked.

Reflection:

I didn’t manage to achieve my main goal today. I didn’t manage to finish the other work either, this is because it took longer to film all of the camera angles than we thought it would. I need to change my plans for the next time because I need to start editing the video clips together when I should’ve done that before hand. To stop this from happening next time I need to work quicker and make sure I get the first bit done in time so that I don’t get behind in the future. Next time I need to start and finish the editing the video clips together and I need to finish the writing part of the project.

Project 3 – Animation sounds

Planning:
For this task we need to put some sounds we make ourself together with a short animation video we find on youtube. My aim for today is to record some different sounds I might be able to use in my video, to find a short animation clip and download it so I’m able to use it, export all of the sounds from the recorder onto my memory stick and to start editing and making the video. To be able to complete this task I will need to use an audio recorder, and a computer to edit it all. I will need quit a few different skills to complete this task, for example I will need to know how to record audio on the recorder, I will need to know how to use adobe audition and I will need file management skills as I will have lot of different files and I will need to know where they all are. To be able to complete this I will need to research how to use the editing site, I will need to know how to export the audio files and how to use the audio recorder.

Research & extermination:
We exterminated with the audio recorder before we start recording to make sure we know how to use it. To complete this we used an editing site called adobe audition, before we started editing we got shown how to do the basics we will need and if we need to know anything else we looked it up ourself. By doing this it made us more independent and were able to learn for ourself.

Production:
Whilst I was in the process of doing this task I faced a few different problems, for example one was that the editing site (adobe audition) wasn’t downloaded onto the computer I was using so I wasn’t able to do the whole task. To over come this problem I had to go onto another computer and hope that it was downloaded on that one so I was able to do the task. Another problem I faced was that when I came to editing the audio clips not all of the clips had been downloaded onto my memory stick. To get all of the files I need I need to delete the ones I have already and re-download them. I had to get rid of the ones before to make sure I don’t have two of the same.

This is showing how to get a certain bit of the audio if you don’t want to use all of it. To do this you highlight the bit of the audio you want to use and ‘right click’ and press save as new and rename it so you know what it is, then its ready to use in your video.

This is a screenshot of the whole process. The very top line is the animation video, the line underneath is the audio that goes through the whole thing and finally the bottom line is the individual sound clips which go along with the animation thats happening at that moment.

Reflection:
I didn’t quite manage to finish everything i needed to for today. This is because it took a while to load the computer up and then I found out the editing software I need to use isn’t downloaded on there so i had to go onto another computer which took quite a while and wasted some time. Also because i had to re-downoad all the audio clips which also wasted quite a bit time I needed. I also didn’t mange to finish it all because I needed to go through all of the sounds and see what sound was what and which ones I could use in my editing. Next time I need to finish putting the audio clips in and edit them to make them sound good.

Project 1 – welcome tour

Planning: (Complete before starting work)

Last week we filmed some video clips and audio clips to answer some questions we had, so my aim for today is to edit them and sync them up together. Today I also need to finish the other work we have been set throughout the day. To do this task I will need to use the cameras and the microphones provided by the college to record the clips we need. The skills I will need to use are editing skills as I will be editing the clips I have, file management because I will have a lot of files and need to make sure I know where they all are and be picante because I won’t be able to get everything right first time. For me to finish the main task we have been set I will have to do some research for example I will need to learn how to use the editing website we are using, also I need to know how the cameras and the microphones work.

Research & Experimentation:

We experimented with the cameras and the microphones before we started using them properly to make sure we know what we are doing before we start filming the actual thing. We also got shown how to use them to make sure we knew exactly what we we’re doing. Whilst doing this project I used quite a few different sources for example we used adobe pro for the editing. I also used a Google website to help me understand how to use the editing website. These sources told me how to use the website and what button did what.

Production:

Whilst I was doing this task I faced quite a few different problems, for example when I downloaded all the clips with the audio clips there were quite a few missing or some that didn’t have the video clip to go with the audio. Also to begin with the website you need to use didn’t load up so I couldn’t get onto it and do the work. To solve the missing clip problem I had to re-download all the clips onto the website to make them useable. To make the website work I had to close the whole thing and reopen it again. The process I took to do this was that I had to get rid of the clips that were already on my memory stick and then download the clips onto my memory stick again. I then put that into the computer and all the clips were there to use.

Reflection:

I didn’t quite manage to achieve my main goal for today. I also didn’t manage to finish what I wanted to finish for today, this is because of the missing clips so I had to try and get them back. Also because I took a little longer doing the work as I wanted to make sure it was the best of my ability. I have had to alter my plans for the next project because before I start doing that I need to finish this project as this helps with the next one. To stop the same problems from happening again I will download all the clips properly and make sure they are all on my memory stick before I start. Next time I do this I need to finish editing the clips, I also need to add effects on the video clips and add transitions in-between the clips to make it a smooth transition.
