Week 6 reflection (26th April)

Today I wanted to do some research about different kind of edits I could do on my photos. For example how to blur part of a photo and how to put one part of a picture onto another picture. I did mange to do this and try them out my self to see how it works and test it so see if I want to use those kind of edits. However it did take longer than I wanted it to as I might have started to edit my pictures. It took longer because it took me longer understand how to edit them and to how I want it to be. These are the photos I managed to edit today:

Next time I am going to look through the photos from Brighton and decide which ones I want to use and start to edit them. To do this I will use photoshop and if there isn’t anything I don’t know how to do I will research it and find how how to.

Editing research

I will want to know a few ways to edit different things on my photos, for example blurring parts of a picture and how to get parts of one picture and put it onto another. I might also change the brightness, exposure and contrast if I feel like I need to.

Blurring part of a picture:

To blur part of a photo I used this picture as an example as I thought I could just put the carriage in focus a blur the rest of the picture.

DSCN4938.JPG

First thing to do was press select and mask and quick select the object I don’t want in focusScreen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.40.43.png

Once you have don’t this you will need to press show edge and change the radius number to what you want it to be and make sure that you tick the decontaminate colours box

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.47.32.png

Then duplicate the background layer, then select the object you don’t want blurred used the lasso button. Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.55.10.png

Then go to edit and press fill once you have done that deselect that so you are left with this: Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.58.42.png

After that to filter, blur and lens blur to actually blur the background. Then you can change the radius to whatever number you want depending how blurred you want the picture to be:

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 12.02.15.png

Press okay. Then you can see the before and after pictures:

To help me do this I used this Youtube video to help me

I want to use this as part of my edits because I feel like it will add good effects onto the pictures and then make it look like the ride is going faster than it actually is which will also create more effect onto the picture.

How to get one part of a picture onto another:

To do this I used these 2 photos as I want to put the carriage from the first picture onto the seconded one.

First I added both photos onto photoshop and hid the one that I’m not doing anything on so if I do something wrong I won’t mess up both pictures

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 14.02.54.png

After this I used the quick selection tool to select what I want to copy and put onto the other picture

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 14.06.04.png

When I’ve done that I press the select and mask tool, change the radius to what you want and what you think is right and pressed the decontaminate colours button so it creates a new layer which I can put on the other picture

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 14.10.45.png

Once you have done that you can select the layers you want to see to create one picture

Week 6 relfection (25th April)

Today I wanted to do a post about my test shots and what went well and what I could’ve done differently. Also about what settings I think were the best to use for the different kind of rides. I was also going to start to do a post about how to do different kind of edits I could do on my pictures.

I did manage to finish the post about my test shots which was my main aim of today. However I didn’t manage to do a post about the edits I could do, this is because I got shown how to put one part of a picture onto another which meant I didnt have time to do that post about edits. I also had to watch some people pitches meaning that wasted some of the time.

Tomorrow I will need to do a post about different editing styles I could do on my pictures and start to choose which ones I want to use and start to edit them.

Testshots

For my test shots I went to Chessington World of Adventures and tested the different kind of rides I could take when I’m at the other places, I also tested the shutter speed and the aperture for the different rides to see how it is different.

For this ride I tested the shutter speed as this ride goes pretty fast so I thought it was a good opportunity to do this. I also ignored the aperture on purpose, I did think about the background, the focus and the timing of pressing the button whilst taking these.

On these few photos I changed the shutter speed each time:

1/1500

Over all I think that the best shutter speed is either 1/1500 or 1/500, this is because the 1/1500 is very clear and you can see everything in detail and can see the peoples facial expressions to show the adrenaline from the ride. The 1/500 shutter speed is also good because it is clear enough to see the ride but is also a little blurry to show how fast the ride actually is. I don’t think the other shutter speeds are good to use because they are too blurry to see anything really.

Then for these next few I wanted to try and get the background blurry and the carriage in focus to show the speed of the ride. To do this I kept the Shutter speed at 1/10 for each one and followed the carriage with the camera as it came down from the top.

DSCN4422DSCN4423DSCN4425DSCN4426

When I first started trying to do this technique it didn’t turn out every well and everything was blurry, which I didn’t want. As I went on I got better and better so hopefully when I come to do it properly hopefully it will be what I want.

On these ones I carried on testing the shutter speed but at a different angle so it would turn out differently.

For this ride I tested the aperture to see what the lighting did and then how the shutter speed changed.  The numbers in the brackets are the shutter speeds as it changes.

8.0 (1/50)

7.1 (1/60)

5.3 (1/100)

6.3 (1/60)

For the ride going away from me I think the best aperture number is 5.3, I think this because it shows all the colours from the tress really well, also the colours from peoples clothes.

I then took some when they were coming towards me to see if that made a difference.

5.6 (1/160)

5.1 (1/160)

For these photos I think the best aperture is 5.6 as its not too dark but then its also not too bright.

These 2 photos I took in automatic to see what settings the camera would put it in to see if that was much different to what I was doing.

5.0 (1/200)

This ride I focused on the shutter speed again to try and get the splash from the water as the boat hit it. The numbers in the brackets are the aperture number as it changed automatically when the shutter speed changed.

This is automatic to see what the camera would put it in:
1/100 (5.3)

DSCN4461

I think the best shutter speed for these is in-between 1/1000 and 1/500. I don’t want to use 1/1000 because it is too dark meaning the camera isn’t letting enough light in because the shutter speed is to fast. I then also don’t want to use 1/500 because it is too bright meaning the camera is letting too much light in because the shutter speed is too slow. So by using a shutter speed in-between these will hopefully mean it won’t be too bright but also not too dark and the water effect will look good as well.

These set of photos I put the camera in manual mood and changed each setting myself.
These few I set the shutter speed at 1/1500 and changed the aperture each time:

4.8

DSCN4463

6.3

DSCN4464

5.0

DSCN4465

Over all I think the shutter speed for these is too fast because its not letting enough light in because the shutter speed is too fast so you can’t see anything and just looks like a black screen.

The next few I change the shutter speed to 1/250 and then carried on to change the aperture.

4.8

DSCN4466

5.0

DSCN4467

7.1

DSCN4468

If I was to use this shutter speed I would use the aperture number of 4.8 as the other ones are too dark and cut really see anything.

These 2 photos the shutter speed is at 1/50.

4.8

DSCN4469

6.3

DSCN4470

I think having the shutter speed set at this number is the best because it means you can actually see whats in the picture. I then think the best aperture number is 4.8 because its not too dark and you can easily see whats meant to be in the picture.
