Week 7 reflection (2nd May)

Today I wanted to start to edit some of my final pictures. I did manage to edit some but not as many as I wanted to, this is because I took longer to edit them because I didn’t know how to do some of the edits I wanted to do so I had to look up how to do that which meant it took longer to edit the pictures. However thats not a big issues because I would rather edit them properly and know how to do it then do it roughly and not be as happy with it.

Next time I am going to carry on editing my pictures to try and get as many done as possible so I can then have more time to print and decide what sizes, and how I want to lay them out in the book.

Photo edits

For some of my photos I wanted to brighten part of a photo without the other part being brighter so I needed to look up how to do that. I used this video to help me:

These are the before and after pictures:

I wanted to do this because I felt like the ride was too dark but the rest of the picture was bright enough so I wanted to change just the ride

I also wanted to know how to make the colours more vibrant on some of the pictures so I used this video to help me:

I wanted to dot this because I felt like the ride wasn’t ‘popping’ out of the photo like I wanted it to so I felt making the colours more vibrant it made that effect possible.

Ideas for a portfolio

To present my final work I am going to make a portfolio to put all of my chosen pictures in as I feel it is then easier to look at the photos in person.

To do this I have looked online at different scrape book like things I could use to put my pictures in:

I like this one because it is really big so I can put a lot of pictures in it so I can show more of my work of. I could also put 2 pictures on one page or just one on each if I want them to be bigger. I also have a choice of the different sizes if I want to. This also comes with the cover stickers to stick the pictures down with which I think adds a lot more detail and makes them stand out more.

This one is good because it is landscape so that adds a different affect because the pictures will be a different size and shape. It also has enough room for at least 36 photos which is a lot and if I wanted 2 on each page thats even more room to fit more of the photos on.

Week 7 reflection (1st May)

Today I wanted to decide what photos I wanted to use for the final project and possibly start to edit them. I did manage to decide what photos I wanted to use from all the different locations, however I didn’t manage to start to edit them because it took longer to decide what ones I want to use. I took longer to do this because I wanted to make sure I had the right ones and didn’t want to use the ones i hadn’t chosen.

Next time I am going to do some research about how I could present them and start to edit the final photos I have chosen to use.

Alton Towers – final photos

When I went here I took a lot of photos, more than I need, so I am going to chose the final ones I want to use and then edit them. These are all of the photos I took whilst there:

These are then the photos I have decided to use for my final piece:

I have chosen to use these ones because I feel like these best show adrenaline and what the rides are like and how they get peoples heartbeat going faster.  I also feel like I can do some good edits on these ones to make them even better and show the adrenaline even better when edited.

Week 6 reflection (26th April)

Today I wanted to do some research about different kind of edits I could do on my photos. For example how to blur part of a photo and how to put one part of a picture onto another picture. I did mange to do this and try them out my self to see how it works and test it so see if I want to use those kind of edits. However it did take longer than I wanted it to as I might have started to edit my pictures. It took longer because it took me longer understand how to edit them and to how I want it to be. These are the photos I managed to edit today:

Next time I am going to look through the photos from Brighton and decide which ones I want to use and start to edit them. To do this I will use photoshop and if there isn’t anything I don’t know how to do I will research it and find how how to.

Editing research

I will want to know a few ways to edit different things on my photos, for example blurring parts of a picture and how to get parts of one picture and put it onto another. I might also change the brightness, exposure and contrast if I feel like I need to.

Blurring part of a picture:

To blur part of a photo I used this picture as an example as I thought I could just put the carriage in focus a blur the rest of the picture.

First thing to do was press select and mask and quick select the object I don’t want in focusScreen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.40.43.png

Once you have don’t this you will need to press show edge and change the radius number to what you want it to be and make sure that you tick the decontaminate colours box

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.47.32.png

Then duplicate the background layer, then select the object you don’t want blurred used the lasso button. Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.55.10.png

Then go to edit and press fill once you have done that deselect that so you are left with this: Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 11.58.42.png

After that to filter, blur and lens blur to actually blur the background. Then you can change the radius to whatever number you want depending how blurred you want the picture to be:

Press okay. Then you can see the before and after pictures:

To help me do this I used this Youtube video to help me

I want to use this as part of my edits because I feel like it will add good effects onto the pictures and then make it look like the ride is going faster than it actually is which will also create more effect onto the picture.

How to get one part of a picture onto another:

To do this I used these 2 photos as I want to put the carriage from the first picture onto the seconded one.

First I added both photos onto photoshop and hid the one that I’m not doing anything on so if I do something wrong I won’t mess up both pictures

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 14.02.54.png

After this I used the quick selection tool to select what I want to copy and put onto the other picture

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 14.06.04.png

When I’ve done that I press the select and mask tool, change the radius to what you want and what you think is right and pressed the decontaminate colours button so it creates a new layer which I can put on the other picture

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 14.10.45.png

Once you have done that you can select the layers you want to see to create one picture

Week 6 relfection (25th April)

Today I wanted to do a post about my test shots and what went well and what I could’ve done differently. Also about what settings I think were the best to use for the different kind of rides. I was also going to start to do a post about how to do different kind of edits I could do on my pictures.

I did manage to finish the post about my test shots which was my main aim of today. However I didn’t manage to do a post about the edits I could do, this is because I got shown how to put one part of a picture onto another which meant I didnt have time to do that post about edits. I also had to watch some people pitches meaning that wasted some of the time.

Tomorrow I will need to do a post about different editing styles I could do on my pictures and start to choose which ones I want to use and start to edit them.
