Week 1 – reflection
This week I wanted to get my proposal and my pitch done so I can start on the research part of my FMP.
I managed to get my all of proposal done at college. However when I started to do it I had one idea but then changed the idea. My original idea was to get pictures of anything at different locations for example at London, Alton towers, Brighton. I then changed my idea to get photos of a certain theme. My theme now is adrenaline, so i will get pictures of rides and rollercoasters at different theme parks, for example Alton towers, Thorpe park, Chessington.
With my pitch, I didn’t quite manage to get that finished at college so I did finish it at home. I did still mange to get this done one time though. Whilst doing this i didn’t really have any problems to over come I just had to complete each slide and explain what I’m going to do.
Next week I am going to research the different kind of genres of photography there are and make a post about that as part of the research task. Next week I will also need to present my pitch to the class so they know what our idea is.

To do this I needed to decide what I wanted to make my website about and then decide what information I wanted to include on it. I decided to do it about the film genre horror and include information about the history of horror and then some examples of horror films and my own reviews on them.
To do this I made my website on a site called wix.com, I then needed to sign up once I had done that I could choose the template I wanted to use from a collection they provided. I then had to research information about the topic and what kind of thing I could include on my website. Once I had written the information about the genre I needed to decide what horror films I wanted to use, and then find information I could use about the film to put onto my website, as well as that I needed to find a trailer to include on there.
If I was to do this again I will research all the information before I start making the website so it makes it all easier and quicker when it comes to actually making the website. I also feel like I could have added more information on there and maybe different film genres as well.

New genre research – The Grinch into horror
The whole idea of a horror is to see whats not there in real life and to see someone on screen where the violence against an evil thing is justified in a relatable situation. To make a film a horror you need to make a sense of tension, so for example people would rather there be an unknown rat than a known snake. Make sure you don’t show the object that is meant to be the horror effect more than 10-15 times before it finally scares you at the end of the film. You need to make the audience ask them selves questions like ‘whats going to happen next?’
Also make the film relatable, this is good so the audience can put themselves in the characters shoes and then understand them and what they are trying to do, it then makes it easier for the audience to build an emotion. As well as making it relatable put a little bit of unrealism into the film as well. This is the most important bit of the film making, prepare the audience for a tense reveal of something or someone so you can make them feel for the character. You need to make them see an unrealistic thing to a realistic thing, for example a doll down human things.
Things to also consider whilst making a horror film is to make the scene dark, it creates more tension and scarier if its in the dark, add creepy, crawly things, for example snakes, spiders, rats these are scary enough on their own but when they touch people they become much scarier. Also set the scene in scary looking places, graveyards, old houses it is good to use these as these are the kind of places where evil things can hide.
The normal target audience for horror films are for 15-25 year olds, the main reason for this is because they enjoy the thrills of the films, they are more likely to excite younger people than older ones.

1950-1960s: alien and monsters were created into the genre

Original film research – The Grinch
The Grinch is originally a Comedy, Family and Fantasy kind of film, it is mainly watched at christmas time as it is set on christmas eve, where a green man called the grinch is trying to ruin christmas for everyone else as he hates it. The director for the film is Ron Howard, the writer for the book is Dr. Seuss ad writer for the film is Jeffrey Price.
This film is mainly aimed at people aged 6 and upwards,this is because the whole idea of the film is quite calm and christmas related which is exciting for the younger age group. Some people say that it isn’t quite suitable for younger age groups because in some places it can be seen as frightening for the younger ages, also because in some places can be seen as violence towards others which isn’t quite suitable for people below the age of 6. It is also recommended for people above 6 because some of the things the Grinch says children below 6 might not take it as a joke however 6 and upwards they can take some of the things he says as a joke and not seriously, for example when the Grinch says “hang himself” 6 year old might not take that as a joke.
This film is the most successful film in the 2000 in the USA after a month it went on general release, it last shows that it is closely followed by Mission: Impossible 2. Over 33 days since it had been released it got £146.8 million putting it in front of a Tom Cruise film, because it was released towards the end of the year it was also one of the biggest films in 2001 as well. Th Grinch got $345.1 million whist making it when it was released making it the 6th highest-grossing film in 2000, the budget of the film was $123 million
In this film they had to use a lot of makeup for the Grinch and the other characters, the makeup for the grinch first took up to 8 hours which made him want to quit, however they then got agents to make the makeup artist more calm whilst doing it to make it quicker, it then took 2 hours to do the makeup and get into the costume and 1 hour to get it all of and out of the costume. the overall time to do the Grinch makeup was 92 days.

Film trailer change – reflection
Planning: (Complete before starting work)
To be able to do this task I will need to first decide what film I will want use and change into a different genre, when I have chosen what film I want to use I will need to decide what I will want to change it into and how I will do that. For this I decided to use How the Grinch Stole Christmas and change that into a horror. I decided to do a horror as I feel like in some parts the Grinch can be seen as scary and how the others react to him can be what are in some horror films.
Once I chosen what film I wanted to use and what genre to turn it into I had to research the original film and it’s genre and then the new genre it will be to get an idea of how I could turn it into a horror. To actually be able to finish this I will need to make sure I have the right Grinch film and all of it, make sure I can use it premier and know how to get little bits of the film to use separately. I will need an idea of what kind of clips I will want to use in my trailer before I start doing the edit so I don’t have to watch the whole film at college and waste my time.
Research & Experimentation:
Before starting to edit the film I will need to research the original film and what genre it is and how I could change it. I will also need to research into what makes a good horror film and how I could do that. Finally to be able to do this task I will need to research how I can edit a whole film into smaller clips and put them together to make my own trailer.
By doing this research it will help me with the finished product and how I can make it the best I can.
Production:
The final outcome of this I am quite happy with as it does kind of look like a horror film trailer. To do this I imported the whole film into premier so I could edit it and get the different clips I wanted. Once I had done that I needed to cut the different bits I wanted from the original film and delete the bits I didn’t want.
Once I had got all the clips I could possibly use I needed to decide what ones I actually wanted to use and the ones I thought weren’t as good so I wouldn’t use.
Once I had decided what clips I wanted to use I had to actually put them altogether to make sure there weren’t any gas between each of the clips. Once I had done that I put some transitions at the beginning of the whole thing then at the end to make sure it wasn’t just a sudden start or end, it kind of just faded in and then faded out slowly.
After I had done all the editing on it and was happy with it I needed to export it so I could upload it to YouTube to then put it onto WordPress. To export it from premier I needed to change the format to H.264, change the name to something I’ll know it as and then save it somewhere where I’ll know where it is and can get to. 
Reflection:
I am happy with the overall outcome of the trailer I have made as it is my first time doing this. However there are a few things that I feel like I could change to make it even better for next time. For example I feel like i could’ve made it a little bit shorter as it is 2:28 long and trailers can’t really be longer than 2:30 so I feel like it is too long for a short trailer and I could’ve got rid of some of the clips that I used. I also feel like some of the clips I have included aren’t really to do with the genre horror so don’t really fit with what I was aiming to create. I also feel like it doesn’t really tell a story within the trailer, I feel like it is just random clips put together to try and make it look like a horror kind of film. Even though I’m not happy with all of it, I am happy with the over all thing as I feel like it has tried out as a horror film trailer and can be seen as a horror.
When I had finished editing it all together I needed to export it from premier and upload it to Youtube then put it onto WordPress for others to watch and comment on it.

Planning: (Complete before starting work)
To make the sounds for the video clip we as a group will need to decide what sounds we will want to make and how to make them. To do this we will need to watch through the silenced video clip and create a cue sheet to know what sounds we want and when to make them. Once we have done that we need to know how to use the equipment that we will be using, to do this we will research information about it all and get to know it before starting to record.
To be able to finish this task we will need to make sure that everyone knows who is who and what they are saying when recording, also what sounds thy will be making when for it to be in sync with the video, when doing this we will need to make sure we have all the equipment we are going to use when making the sounds. We will need to make sure we have all the recording equipment and make sure its set up properly to actually record the audio and sounds. We will then need to make sure we know how to use audition properly and well enough to edit the audio and sound see have for it and to make sure it is all in sync with the video clip. To make sure I know how to use the software I will need to research and find information about how to use it and how to edit audio properly.
Research & Experimentation:
Before starting to record this we need to research different audio terminology so we know what the different parts are called, the different types of microphones and the different equipment we will be using. We will also need to find what things we will be using for the different sounds we want to make throughout the video clip.
By doing this research it will make it easier when we are recording the audio and sounds and then when I come to edit the whole thing.
Production:
Recording
Whilst recording the audio for this video clip we had to make sure we knew what bit we were each saying and when to say it. We came across a few different problems whilst doing this, for example some of us couldn’t say some of the words we needed to. To over come this problem we just had to practise what we were saying before we actually recorded it so when we came to recording we could say it all properly. We then had trouble syncing the audio up with the video clip. To fix this we had to practise when we were saying it to make sure it was all in sync, then if it still wasn’t perfectly in sync we had to move it a little bit when we were editing the whole thing.
Editing
When I came to editing the audio for this there was no sound and couldn’t hear anything. To fix this I needed to g back into the recording studio to get all of the folders I needed to hear the audio and copy it onto my memory stick so I could edit it. To make sure this doesn’t happen gain I will make sure the I copy all of the folders properly before I leave the studio and before I start editing it all. I also had a problem where some of the sounds we had created was too loud and it became overpowering to the rest of it. To solve this I had tried to turn the sound down on it but then I had turned it too low and couldn’t get it back again. To fix this I was just pressing the wrong thing and had to go somewhere else on the programme to turn it up so I could actually hear it again.
When I had finished editing everything on it I had to export it and import it onto premier so the audio is all on one track, could put the video clip over the top of the audio and is then easier to upload it onto YouTube.
Reflection:
Overall I am happy with how this turned out however there are a few things I could’ve changed. For example at the end when Flin said it finally works, the works bit goes on for longer than what I made it do, so to change this I could’ve made it do that on my edit to make it sound better over all. Also times the audio cane a little bit quite and harder to hear, to fix this I could’ve turned up the volume to make it easier to hear all the way through. I feel like I could’ve added more sound effects over the top of the audio to make it more effective and to cover all of the sounds being seen in the video, to do this I could’ve either made the sounds ourselves or gone onto a website and downloaded a sound to cover it. However I am still happy with the out come as I haven’t done anything like that before so it was all new to me, so considering it was my first time I’m happy with how I edited it all and how I put it all together.
Once I had finished editing all of it and finished putting it all together I needed to export it from premier to upload it too YouTube, to export it from there I need to change the format to say H.264, change the name of it and save it somewhere I’ll know where it is. When I had done that I could upload it to YouTube to then share on WordPress.
