Project 1 – welcome tour

Planning: (Complete before starting work)

Last week we filmed some video clips and audio clips to answer some questions we had, so my aim for today is to edit them and sync them up together. Today I also need to finish the other work we have been set throughout the day. To do this task I will need to use the cameras and the microphones provided by the college to record the clips we need. The skills I will need to use are editing skills as I will be editing the clips I have, file management because I will have a lot of files and need to make sure I know where they all are and be picante because I won’t be able to get everything right first time. For me to finish the main task we have been set I will have to do some research for example I will need to learn how to use the editing website we are using, also I need to know how the cameras and the microphones work.

Research & Experimentation:

We experimented with the cameras and the microphones before we started using them properly to make sure we know what we are doing before we start filming the actual thing. We also got shown how to use them to make sure we knew exactly what we we’re doing. Whilst doing this project I used quite a few different sources for example we used adobe pro for the editing. I also used a Google website to help me understand how to use the editing website. These sources told me how to use the website and what button did what.

Production:

Whilst I was doing this task I faced quite a few different problems, for example when I downloaded all the clips with the audio clips there were quite a few missing or some that didn’t have the video clip to go with the audio. Also to begin with the website you need to use didn’t load up so I couldn’t get onto it and do the work. To solve the missing clip problem I had to re-download all the clips onto the website to make them useable. To make the website work I had to close the whole thing and reopen it again. The process I took to do this was that I had to get rid of the clips that were already on my memory stick and then download the clips onto my memory stick again. I then put that into the computer and all the clips were there to use.

Reflection:

I didn’t quite manage to achieve my main goal for today. I also didn’t manage to finish what I wanted to finish for today, this is because of the missing clips so I had to try and get them back. Also because I took a little longer doing the work as I wanted to make sure it was the best of my ability. I have had to alter my plans for the next project because before I start doing that I need to finish this project as this helps with the next one. To stop the same problems from happening again I will download all the clips properly and make sure they are all on my memory stick before I start. Next time I do this I need to finish editing the clips, I also need to add effects on the video clips and add transitions in-between the clips to make it a smooth transition.

  • What kind of media is it?
    This is a science fiction, horror fiction, occult fiction and costume drama film series on Netflix called Stranger Things.

  • Describe the audience you think it’s aimed at?
    I think that it is aimed for people aged between 15-30. I think this because some viewers may find it a little scary at times and has some scenes that are not suitable for some people. Also because this age group is more likely to enjoy this genre of film/series.
  • Tell us about the people who made it: 
    The director of Stranger Things are the Duffer Brothers, Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer who are also the creators of it. Stephen King was the author of the series.   • Describe the product (or part of it) – USE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE
    Stanger Things is based on a place in Montauk, New York called Camp Hero. It has a lot is visual effects for example when the monsters appear in the sky to make it look like its real life when in actual fact its not! The sound effects are also really good  because the timing for when the things happen to the sound is perfectly timed. Also it makes perfect sense as you watch episode after episode so the writer did an excellent job when they were creating and writing the whole thing.

  • What did you like about it?
    I really enjoyed the animations within it for example all the monsters that are in it and the effects like when they appear in the sky. I also liked how they made it look like they were in a different planet but the producers just used the effects to make it  look like that. I enjoy Stranger Things because it is based on a true story so it makes you want to binge watch it and makes you connect with it better because you know someone has gone through that kind of thing.

  • What didn’t you like about it?
    I don’t really like how it is set in the 1980s as I feel like it should be more within the modern days so viewers could understand it more.
  • What would you do differently if YOU were making it?
    If I were to change this series I would probably change when it is set from the 1980s to the 2000s to make it have a better look to it and to make it look more modern.
